Words On Paper

Crazy newspaper boggles my mind
teaches me something, things I find

Grilling, gripping, my hand it pulls
i dive in its knowledge pool
black words beautiful drive away,
away from sordid TV's cesspool

Politics, ads, criminals bad,
accidental news, sob stories sad,
he kills her, or someone's dad,
Angelina marries with a guy named brad.

Op-ed columns are filthy rich, knowledgeable
Editorial page with letters stitched
Top column ever so big
never fails to take a dig

Business economy all alike
seem to me cartoon like
cartoon clip-art politicking
Keshav draws, laughter make me cry

Fifteen pages joy wrapped fun
i eat everyday with a bun
earth would seem to stop rotate
if it arrives a little late

Tea or coffee mug hooked in hand
"do not disturb", the signal stands
"The Hindu", my Koran,Gita, Bible
people please all understand

She and me are best friends
don't be jealous, you'll understand; once
when you'll inhale her,
listen and absorb what she yells.

The cursor blinked at him, like a ticking clock, but the words wouldn’t come. His eyes wandered to the window. He imagined what his parents might be doing in Delhi. Maybe Maa was making chai. Maybe Papa was watching the news. Maybe the house didn’t even feel complete without him anymore. His phone pinged. A message from his sister in Düsseldorf. Didi: “You okay? Missed your call. Also, Maa said, ‘Bas ek baar uski shakal dekh loon toh theek ho jaaye.’...
