Dive in a Book

Reading a book can be tiresome. Rather it used to be, but now it is exhilarating.

My school had an extensive library. Not one but two libraries. One for Junior school and one for middle and senior school students. A library period was always a fun-filled experience for me. As juniors, they showed us documentaries, kids movies and Discovery channel. Reference books and books of Disney characters such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel and the like with their shiny glossy paper were the main attractions. Noddy riding on his Toy car in his toy land always amazed me. Ms. Blyton did a fine work. 

But why did they do it? They ..my school. What's the purpose behind it? I never realized, until I passed out of school. It was the exposure to such a vast collection that made think. Each book had inside it, a gateway to a world filled with imagination and wondrous creatures. 

I was never a critical thinker. I always read and forgot about it as soon as I finished. But was it enough ? Thinking is very important. A key to understanding the various portrayals of characters, scenes, situations, views. Something that we might not know ever. Getting a first hand experience by reading and understanding a few words .... the possibilities in itself seems magical and seamless.

Pity that now I have to pay for the common classics that I could read in school for free. No library system is present, which could provide the kids what their school cannot and fulfill the demands of adults that cannot pay. Reading about the rights of citizen and fundamental duties, it hurts, when i see no act of philanthropy towards construction of a library. 

Are any rising millionaires of India listening? I want to become a millionaire, so I could build a library someday ....

What is Design? This is the first question that can be asked of a design student. Some would say, it gives me pleasure, the beauty that she feels. Others chime in, the sensory input that brings a spectrum of colors to her existence is how design spoke to her. Yes, but that is an outcome of design, good or bad, what is design, really? Design, is the product of human imagination, animals and plants can’t see and imagine, human ingenuity in art is to identify what ails our civilization. Design writing helps understand the logic prescient in that modelling of facts that were, yet unknown to us in the output. Design writing can sound frivolous to the mainstream. Why go into nuance of something that was, use it and do your thing. Each pin or cell phone holds a design, therefore generation of imagination. More complexity brings more mysteries. The fact itself is the problem, often. An engineer can fix nuts and bolts, a politician will fund the industry, and the designer will build the world

I am a human being. I need to prove it day and night. As a human being I have to caricature the values of the people around me. To be human is to be a part of a tribe. A tribe with norms and positions with a role. I did not choose a lot of things in life. My mother, my father, my brother, my sister. Even my wife wasn’t chosen by me. I am a passive person true to Shakespearean quote, “ we are but actors in a play, acting the roles”. I have thought sometimes, who is the playright ? My mother told me it was the god who made the stage, wrote the script and directed us all. As long as we did good to our loved ones, played by the rules of the society and did good karma I will one day get off the stage and sit peacefully at the end of my life.  I had accepted all of it with humility. It is a hereditary trait in my tribe. My ilk and kith rely on the buttons that are programmed since ages. To listen and do no evil. Yes sir, no sir, jee huzoor, hanji maalik, in my mouth rings all these monikers.
